The Morris Register’s West Region are currently holding a weekend break based upon the Somerset resort of Minehead. Three Minors and their crews are taking part (Messrs et Mesdames Sears, Gregory and Martin). This image of Ken and Kate Martin’s 1930 Morris Minor Coachbuilt Saloon (VX 4590) was taken by Kate in Dunster and replicates many similar popular postcard views of this beautiful village.

A famous Morris Eight Special is now available to purchase as a project at £22.5K ONO. The supercharged Ashley-Cleave Special successfully took part in competitive events betwean 1937 and 1974. With the weather improving it really is an opportune time to properly shakedown our cars with the Scrumpy Rally just a few short weeks away.

This photo of David Whittle’s 1929 Morris Minor Tourer (WE 6554) was taken just over 19 years ago by noted vintage car event photographer, Phil Jones. The occasion was the 2005 running of the LC&ES Welsh Weekend, an event noted for its mud. The car, once owned by member Paul Harris is now in the custodianship of Ian Grace.

This Ken Martin photo was taken during the recent VSCC Wiltshire Tour and illustrates perfectly the prevailing weather conditions. As a result, a large proportion of those entered decided not to attend leaving a somewhat depleted field. Here Ken’s 1930 Morris Minor Coachbuilt Saloon (VX 4590) is about to enter a flooded sector of the route but not before noting the depth of water encountered by the car ahead.

The U.K.’s Drive-it-Day is an annual springtime event organised by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC), thus providing a national collective excuse for vintage and classic car owners to use their vehicles once again, usually after a long winter lay-off. Here a group of enthusiasts from the Norfolk/Suffolk border are about to set off on a short 20 mile tour in beautiful spring sunshine but with the air temperature in single figures.

Brian and Heidi Maeers are legendary personalities in the pre-war Minor world.  Brian owned and campaigned his four Morris Minors on a regular basis attending rallies and competing in VSCC events, flying the Minor flag wherever he went. His cars were also used by members of his family to whom they were eventually bequeathed upon his passing in 2014. Here his Minors can be seen assembled once again at a family gathering over the Easter holiday period.

While DPD may not be too concerned, Andrew Miles is investigating the feasibility of utilising his 1929 Morris Minor Tourer (SV 9789) as a ‘home delivery service’ vehicle. Its open body enabling all manner of unusually shaped loads to be transported as illustrated here. On this occasion, ‘SV’ was captured on camera carrying a test shipment of lances for the local Yeovil ‘Knights of the Round Table’ re-enactment group.

This image was taken in July 2007 at the VMR Rally which was based upon the village of Milton Abbas, Dorset. Here a very young Toby Sears pilots PJ 5155, his 1932 Minor Two-seater through the village, while Riz his reluctant navigator for the weekend, looks enviously at the photographer!

Competing in a Minor can be fun – even when it’s blowing a gale and the driving rain is stinging your face. If you find that hard to believe just ask Alistair Bond and Tom his young navigator. It was he who was tasked with plotting a route under these conditions while taking part in the recent LC&ES Welsh weekend activities in Alistair’s 1930 Morris Minor Semi-Sports (IA 9142).
